The first Africa Tobacco Harm Reduction Forum- Nairobi

Campaign for Safer Alternatives(CASA) will be hosting the very first Africa Tobacco Harm Reduction Forum(ATHRF) in March this year. The much anticipated forum will be held at the Radisson Blu hotel in Nairobi Kenya.

The forum is a discussion and networking platform designated to facilitate exchange of ideas among
health practitioners, policy makers, academics, consumers, advocates and media from across Africa.
The theme for this year’s event is: Safer Alternatives: A gateway to a smoke-free Africa

The forum is timely, we are hopeful that it will will spark a conversation on why African countries have little to no available smoking cessation services, which beg the question; can the continent be 100% smoke-free in our lifetime? As the rest of the world continues to reap the benefits of safer alternatives, most smokers in developing countries haven’t got the slightest idea of what these products are or if they even exist.

The forum will also bring together members from Tobacco Harm Reduction Malawi (THR Malawi),
Tobacco harm reduction Nigeria (THR Nigeria), Tobacco harm reduction Uganda (THR Uganda) and
tobacco harm reduction Kenya (THR Kenya).

Some of the confirmed speakers are Dr. Delon Human, Professor Solomon Rataeman, Gregory Conley and Dr. Frasalinos Konstantinos. The forum will also host the distinguished Professor Harry Shapiro and Tomasz Jerzynski of Knowledge-Action-Change (KAC) as they launch their briefing paper on tobacco harm-reduction and human rights.

More information can be found on the forum’s official website www.athrf.org.
