Promoting Tobacco Harm Reduction Strategies through Capacity Building and Advocacy
Based on the previous research which was conducted in 2018 on Tobacco Harm Reduction in Malawi aimed at establishing the evidence based on health and socio-economic impacts of tobacco in Malawi, under Knowledge Action Change (KAC), it was indicated that there is/was a wide knowledge gap among health professional, the general public and health advocacy groups on the concept of Tobacco Harm Reduction and its associated strategies as well as products.
It is on this background that Wilfred Jekete, a Knowledge Action Change Scholar has embarked on the project aimed at building the capacity of individuals, advocacy groups as well as advocating for Tobacco Harm Reduction and associated strategies through KAC within the Tobacco Harm Reduction Malawi (THR Malawi).
Aim of the Project
The project seeks to integrated Tobacco Harm Reduction strategies into the Health Care systems by building the capacity of health professionals on Tobacco Harm Reduction, On the other hand, Public Health Advocacy groups to use their existing channels in promoting Tobacco Harm Reduction Strategies among Individuals in Malawi in order to better position citizens of the country to make informed personal health choices.
- To increase/build the capacity of health professionals in the field of Tobacco Harm Reduction.
- Build the capacity of public health Advocacy Groups to take up a role in Tobacco Harm Reduction.
- Mass sensitization (public awareness) on Harms caused by tobacco combustible products such as cigarettes and promoting Tobacco Harm Reduction to ensure that individual as able to make informed Health Choices.
