Mkamanga’s testimony on tobacco harms

On 5 September, 2018, Tobacco Harm Reduction team had an opportunity to converse with Mr. Kumbukani Mkamanga, a Nursing Officer, medical ward at Kamuzu Central Hospital in Lilongwe. During the interaction, Mkamanga mentioned that most of the patients he receives in the ward suffer from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and lung cancer which are caused by smoking and inhaling of tobacco smoke.

Mkamanga further explained that the hospital does not provide concrete help to people suffering from nicotine addiction, “there are no psycho- therapies and no alternatives of satisfying nicotine crave for our patients, some patients get tempted to sneak out and source tobacco cigarettes when they have nicotine crave”.

In the short clip below, Mr. Kumbukani Mkamanga- Nursing Officer at KCH explains the need for alternative ways of satisfying nicotine crave rather that combustible cigarettes.

My advice……stay away from smokers…….and if your a smoker stop!!!!!!!!! unless you what to increase levels of poverty to your household, community and the nation.

Malawi cannot afford Radiosurgery, Chemotherapy and Radiation therapy kind of treatment. Do not ignore or even bother for sponsors for your ignorance. Life is too precious take care of it.
